A Slice Of The Bear Life

Somewhere in my internet wanderings, I saw a recommendation for Polar Bear Cafe, a slice of life anime available on Crunchyroll, featuring furry characters. Being a bear sort of person as well as a fan of anime, I had to check it out immediately!

Twenty six episodes in, I'm still totally enamored with this delightful, humorous, punny, series, and I needed (desperately) to share it with any furry folks out there who may have missed it.

Polar Bear Cafe caters to humans as well as animal characters. Their intermingling provides a lot of the humorous subplots, but there are many serious threads running throughout as well and a lot to hook the viewer and hold them for episode after episode. The show is cute, yes, but it is also clever, touching and a whole heap of fun.

For non-bears out there, don't let the name fool you. One of the main trio of characters is a Penguin, and he is a huge contributor of plot lines and antics. Other furry characters include:

llama
sloth
tortoise
anteater
mandrill
tree kangaroo
squirrels
tapir
lion
wolf
tiger
and many more... as well as
Polar Bear
Panda
and Grizzly
and Penguin of course!

Though most of the episodes are child appropriate, this is not a kids' show and there is drunkenness and swearing in several episodes. (Mostly because of Grizzly)

I HIGHLY recommend you give it a try!
