Black Beauty

As I understand it, and please correct me if I'm wrong, Black Beauty was the first book for adults to use an animal protagonist. That is, to tell the story through an animal's point of view. I've read that it pretty much launched the "animal story" genre, and so it seemed like a good place to start this segment which is pretty much just going to amount to book porn. Gorgeous books, classic stories, and delicious vintage illustrations. 

Both of these two came from my bookshelves. The first is a new title made to look like a vintage paperback. 

 

The second copy has a copyright date of 1955 and I wish it was in better shape. Still, it's definitely a bookish treasure. 

So, that's my book treasure for today, a proper beginning for animal stories and hopefully y'all enjoy seeing them. If so, I have more to come!
